Predicting the release date of the 2017 MLS schedule

Based on previous seasons, we still have about a month to wait

If like me you’re anxiously awaiting the release of the 2017 Major League Soccer schedule to plan your vacation time around, previous experience means we have about a month still to wait.

The schedule has been released on January 7 the past two years running. Since January 7 is on a Saturday this year, look for the schedule to drop on a weekday between January 4 and January 12.

The schedule has been released in January eight of the last 13 years. Fans have had to wait all the way until February four times over that span, most recently in 2011 when the schedule didn’t drop until February 10.

The 2014 schedule came out especially early and most ideal for vacation planners on November 25.

MLS did announce the home openers earlier in the game last year on December 22 and did the same on December 19 the year before.

The 2017 MLS season will be the 22nd for the league while the addition of expansion clubs Atlanta United and Minnesota United will bring the league to 22 teams.
