Game 5: Philadelphia Union 1 – Los Angeles Galaxy 3

Published

on

Surprise!  My prediction from the preview post was correct with the Galaxy taking this one by a score of 3-1.

The game went pretty much as I had expected.  Los Angeles dominated early starting with a goal 53 seconds in.  The Union had a hard time mounting an attack.  Stupidity occurred.  Another red card was given out.  Another game playing down a man.

Instead of scribing out the litany of things we did wrong tonight, I am going to keep things positive and brief.  I will address the bad tomorrow.

Chris Seitz played a very good game.  He held up his end of the bargain as the keeper.  The defense let him down and gave the ball right back to the Galaxy.  Also, there isn't much you can do when Landon Donovan plays perfect balls.  I know Seitz became the early whipping boy of this franchise but the score could have easily been 6-1 had it not been for his efforts in net.

Jack McInereny scored his first goal tonight.  He finished when he had to and placed a solid ball past Ricketts and destroyed the foregone conclusion of a clean sheet for the keeper.  Jack still gets manhandled out there but he doesn't retaliate, keeps his head down and sprints all over the field applying pressure on the opposing backfield.

Again we seemed to play better with 10 men than 11 in the second half.  Maybe we should just start games down a man.

Those are the only real positives from tonight's game.  We have to play better but as fans I think we all need to practice our patience.  The season is long and year one is going to be a bumpy ride.
