Hurricane Irene: Union Monitoring Situation, Phillies MoveTheir Sunday Game, NJ In State Of Emergency

Hurricane Irene continues to move toward the Eastern coastline of the USA, but the Philadelphia Union have chosen to "monitor" the situation and are not providing any other information about a possible postponement decision.

Irene is due to hit the Philadelphia area by the time that the Union game begins Sunday night, 7 pm, against the New England Revolution. MLS and the Union have yet to make an official announcement on what will happen if the game is to be postponed, nor have they publicly discussed moving the game up a day early to avoid the storm.

According to Chris Vito, Union head coach Piotr Nowak says that the Union, MLS and the Revolution are all talking about a solution to a problem.

The Philadelphia Phillies, however, have chosen to preempt the landfall of the Hurricane by announcing to employees that the team will play a double header on Saturday, against the Florida Marlins, instead of risking a postponement or otherwise on Sunday.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie declared a State of Emergency ahead of Irene coming to the state, and he also asked residents and tourists to not head to the Jersey Shore this weekend.
