Thorne Holder Signs With FC New York

Former Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Thorne Holder has signed with FC New York of the United Soccer League (USL).

The 25-year-old Holder had hinted toward the move on his Facebook page last week, adding FC New York to his list of employers/former employers. @SoBSanjaya alerted the Brotherly Game to the change.

FC New York officials confirmed the former Trinidad and Tobago youth international's addition, telling the Brotherly Game that the only hold up for Holder joining the team was clearing MLS waivers.

Holder did not make an appearance for the Union’s first team, but did play 45 minutes in the team’s 1-0 friendly win over English club Everton. A concussion and other injuries prevented the goalkeeper from keeping fifth overall SuperDraft pick Zac MacMath from overtaking him for the back up role, behind starting goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon.

Obtained after not being drafted in either the 2011 SuperDraft or Supplemental Draft, Holder made his way into the Union's camp and impressed the technical staff enough to sign with the team.
