Talk of Philadelphia Union interest in Nicolás Demartini resurfaces

21-year-old Argentine has reportedly been on the Union’s radar

Could the left-footed center back Ernst Tanner has said he is targeting to replace Mark McKenzie 21-year-old Argentine Nicolás Demartini?

Rumors of the Philadelphia Union’s interest in Demartini circulated in the fall around the same time rumors started picking up about Celtic’s interest in McKenzie.

McKenzie’s transfer to KRC Genk in Belgium was finalized last week.

Demartini was previously linked with Club Brugge in Belgium and Bologna in Italy. His value is listed at $990,000 on Transfermarkt.

Crossing Broad writer Kevin Kinkead tweeted Monday that somebody had contacted him through a feedback form to say that the Union were back on in their pursuit.

While the rumor was certainly shared in an unorthodox way, it’s hard to completely discount it since he fits what the Union are looking for and would presumably be in the right price range.
