Quinn Sullivan’s bicycle kick named MLS Goal of the Week
The 17-year old’s wonder-strike against Chicago was the best of the week throughout the whole league
Quinn Sullivan’s bicycle kick in the 28th minute against Chicago Fire last weekend has been named the MLS Goal of the Week.
With the Union trailing 1-0, Sullivan took advantage of being unmarked on a corner kick. Jamiro Monteiro’s cross was met by a Chicago defender who attempted to clear, although it went directly to a lurking Sullivan.
The 17-year old Philadelphia native twisted for the overhead kick, sending the whole league into a frenzy and garnering the No. 2 spot on Saturday’s SportsCenter Top 10 plays.
Sullivan’s bicycle kick becomes even more impressive considering it came just under a half hour into his first-ever MLS start. The teenager played a total of 61 minutes before being replaced by Daniel Gazdag.
The acrobatic effort was instrumental in earning a road point in Chicago, which keeps the Union at third place in the Eastern Conference. It also marked a second straight Goal of the Week honor after Jakob Glesnes won it last week for his long range equalizer against Atlanta United.
Sullivan’s next chance at a professional start will come on Saturday, when the Union head down south to play Nashville SC at 8 p.m.
