USMNT to play friendly at Talen Energy Stadium

The United States Soccer Federation announced its third spring friendly for the Men’s National team against Bolivia, with the match set to take place on May 28 at Talen Energy Stadium.

Kickoff for the friendly is set for 7 p.m. ET and FS1 will carry the game on national TV. The USMNT will then fly to Europe to play Ireland on June 2 in Dublin, and France, one of the favorites for the 2018 World Cup this summer, in Lyon on June 9.

The USA has one match between now and the Bolivia clash, coming against Paraguay on March 27 in North Carolina. Under interim head coach Dave Sarachan, the rebuilding Americans have one match under their belt in 2018, a 0-0 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the StubHub Center in January.

While the USMNT has played five matches at Lincoln Financial Field, with the most recent visit coming last July against El Salvador in a 2-0, the national team has played at Talen Energy Stadium just twice in the venue’s eight-year history.

The first occurrence came in 2010, the stadium’s first year, when the Stars and Stripes drew Colombia, 0-0, in front of a crowd of 8,823. The second match was the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup third place match, when the USA was downed by Panama on penalty kicks, 3-2, after a 1-1 draw, with a reported attendance of 12,598. Talen Energy Stadium’s max capacity is 18,500.

The USA is 1-2-4 all-time against Bolivia. La Verde sits 47th in the latest FIFA International rankings and missed out on this year’s World Cup after finishing ninth of out ten teams in CONMEBOL.
