City Islanders FC travel to southeastern Pennsylvania to play the West Chester United Predators Majors in the second round of the 2016 US Open Cup.

Created in 1914, the US Open Cup is the third-oldest tournament of its kind in the world. CIFC has a history of success in the tournament, losing in the semifinals in 2012 after defeating two MLS opponents. Since 1996, only one non-MLS club has lifted the US Open Cup: USL’s Rochester Rhinos in 1999.

West Chester United hosts the Islanders after a first round victory last Wednesday over Fredericksburg FC of NPSL. Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, West Chester held on for two extra periods and defeated Fredericksburg 8-7 in penalty kicks.

Although in a higher division, City Islanders FC’s stadium situation this season means that they will not host a single match in the 2016 tournament.

The winner of this match will play either Chattanooga FC or Reading United AC away on June 1 in the third round.
