Talking Club América with the Eagle Eye Podcast
We spoke with Ivan Pineda from the Eagle Eye Podcast to learn more about Club América ahead of the Union’s CCL bout tonight
Ahead of the Philadelphia Union’s Concacaf Champions League match in Mexico City Thursday night, we reached out to our friends over at the Eagle Eye Podcast, the Club América English language podcast, to find out more about the Union’s opponents.
1.) Club América is undefeated in their last four matches, though four of them were friendlies, and in their first Liga MX match, they tied. What kind of form does the team seem to be in, and how much should those friendly results be analyzed?
Whilst Club America is 3 games into the season undefeated, the form displayed on the pitch has been more than irregular. Even though the team has had to cope with players being out due to Olympics or injury, the players at Solari’s disposal haven’t performed that well, but it has been enough to get the job done.
2.) Where’s CA’s biggest strength and where does their greatest weakness lie?
Even though it hasn’t really been seen this season, Club América’s biggest strength is their attack and how versatile it is. Having players who fit in different roles and can aport so much going forward. With that said the team's biggest weakness is the defense. Mainly the center backs who get outpaced easily and seem to sometimes be scrambling to get back into position
3.) Who’s one player to watch on CA, and what’s their strength?
The one player to look out for right now is Salvador Reyes. [He’s a] newcomer to the team this season who already has 2 goals in his last 2 starts for the club. He’s a fullback with a lot of pace and very good awareness on the pitch.
4.) This match will be like no other that the Union as a club has ever experienced. What will the stadium atmosphere be like in Mexico City?
Unfortunately due to conditions in Mexico City, the stadium is restricted to a limited capacity of around 20-25% but there will be fans in attendance. Even with that said you can expect the Union to feel the pressure of the stadium which, on its own, has this essence that looms over anyone and is unmatched to any other stadium in our Concacaf region.
