Philadelphia Union U17s back in GA Cup final after 2-0 win over Flamengo

Diego Rocio can’t stop scoring.

The Philadelphia Union U17 forward followed up his brace in Friday’s quarterfinal with another brace in a 2-0 win over Flamengo to book a return visit to the Generation adidas Cup final.

Rocio opened the scoring in the first half with a well-takebn free kick goal set up by a silly foul committed on Anisse Saidi during a long free kick. He scored again off a diagonal ball from Jamir Johnson to make it 2-0 just after halftime.

Flamengo shot themselves in the foot again with another silly foul that gave the Union a man advantage through the latter stages of the second half. Still with Flamengo pushing numbers forward, goalkeeper Gavin Atkinson had to make a big save with his leg on a 1v1 chance to prevent a comeback.

Now, after beating opponents from four different countries in four straight games, the Union will face off against LA Galaxy for a chance to claim a second straight GA Cup crown and third overall.

The game kicks off at 5 p.m. Sunday and will be broadcast live on MLS Season Pass.
