Defending champions Middletown High School is after a repeat win over crosstown rival Appoquinimink while perennial power Caravel Academy needs to avoid an upset to add another state title in Delaware High School girls soccer finals being played today in Cape Henlopen.

Playing in the DIAA Division 1 final for the third straight year, Middletown is seeking its third girls state title as a program (they first won it in 2017) but will need to repeat their performance from a year ago against their crosstown rivals. Middletown won the meeting between the two teams earlier this year 3-1 with star forward Gabby Riley scoring a hat trick.

The Division 1 final kicks off at 4 p.m.

Eighth-seeded Ursuline Academy upset top-ranked St. Mark’s in the quarterfinals and will be underdogs against Caravel Academy in the Division 2. Caravel won a meeting earlier this season between the two teams 5-0 with all five goals in the first half scored by five different goal-scorers. Caravel is seeking the program’s 7th state title and first since 2021.

The match is slated to kick off at 7 p.m. but that is subject to change if the first game goes to overtime.

Both games will be broadcast live on the NFHS Network.
