Barnetta, Rosenberry earn weekly superlatives
A Goal of the Week nod and a return to the top of the rookie rankings, respectively.
While the Philadelphia Union didn’t get the result they wanted to against the Montreal Impact, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. Major League Soccer’s weekly superlatives came out yesterday, and the Union’s Tranquillo Barnetta and Keegan Rosenberry were both recognized.
Barnetta’s goal against the Impact was nominated for Goal of the Week. The Swiss midfielder hit this amazing shot during the run of play that froze Montreal goalkeeper Eric Kronberg.
Had it not been for a defensive lapse late in the game, Barnetta’s goal would have won the match for the Union. Barnetta’s goal is currently up against a goal by Sporting Kansas City’s Roger Espinoza.
Keegan Rosenberry also regained the top spot in the unofficial MLS Rookie Rankings column on MLSsoccer.com, thanks to his performance against the Impact. Rosenberry has been in a dogfight with the Seattle Sounders’ Jordan Morris for this honor all season, however with Clint Dempsey sidelined indefinitely it appears as though Morris’ stock is dropping. It is unofficial though, and there’s still a bit of time before the actual MLS Rookie of the Year award is handed out.
