Rayshaun McGann called into United States U17 training camp
Camp being held in Honduras through March 3
Philadelphia Union Academy defender Rayshaun McGann is one of 26 players participating in a United States U17 training camp in San Pedro Sula, Honduras through March 3.
Head coach John Hackworth is using the camp to prepare for the CONCACAF U17 Championship in Panama beginning April 21. The U.S. has been paired with Jamaica, Mexico and El Salvador for the tournament, which will determine qualification for the U17 World Cup in India.
The camp is the first outside the U.S. in 2017 and will feature multiple friendlies against the Honduras U17 team.
The matches are the first for Hackworth’s team since they swept their U17 counterparts from Brazil, Portugal and Turkey to win the Nike International Friendlies tournament in Florida in December for the first time since 2013.
Birth years for the players range from 2000 to 2001. McGann turned 17 earlier this week.
McGann is the lone representative from the Philadelphia Union on the squad. Atlanta United, New York Red Bulls, New York City FC, New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake, Portland Timbers and Toronto FC also have players from their academy ranks on the squad while D.C. United homegrown Christopher Durkin is also with the team.
