Local college soccer standouts honored at Philly Soccer Six banquet

Top players, coaches and teams were recognized Thursday evening

Philadelphia’s six Division 1 men’s soccer programs celebrated the 2016 season and honored the top players and coaches at the annual Philadelphia Soccer Six banquet on Thursday night.

Temple star Jorge Gomez Sanchez received the Chris Jones Player of the Year award while his teammate Joonas Jokinen was honored with the John McAdams Academic Player of the Year award.

Villanova freshman Shane Bradley (Havertown, Pa.), a Philadelphia Union Academy grad, received the William “Bill” Wilkinson Freshman of the Year honor and his coach, Tom Carlin, was the Bill Harris Coach of the Year.

Other awards included the Goals Leader (Gomez Sanchez), Assist Leader (Villanova midfielder Miguel Polley), Goal Against Average Leader and (Temple goalkeeper Alex Cagle).

Villanova were soccer six champions in the fall with a 1-0-1 record.

All-star and all-rookie teams were also name, which included Philadelphia Union Academy grads and Villanova teammates Shane Bradley and Conor Bradley on the All-Rookie team.
