Yaro scores cheeky (own) goal

Not his finest moment.

As far as own goals go, this one was a beaut. A cheeky backheel flick by the Philadelphia Union’s Josh Yaro on a shot by the Columbus Crew SC’s Justin Meram that would make even the cheekiest of cheeky bastards proud.

Let’s take a look at that from behind the goal.

As of this writing, Meram has been awarded the goal so it’s not technically an own goal (although that could change when the official match reports are out.) I have no idea what Yaro was trying to do there, but whatever it was he didn’t do it. Poor John McCarthy had been playing so well but had absolutely no shot of stopping that.
