WATCH: CJ Sapong breaks Union’s single-season scoring record
Sapong has broken a seven-year club record.
With nearly an hour left in the 2017 MLS season, CJ Sapong has surpassed Sebastien Le Toux's club record of 14 goals in a single season.
Sapong was rewarded for his hard run to the far post, as he only needed to tap in a tidy cross from Fafa Picault.
In his third season with the club, the former Sporting Kansas City forward has already achieved a personal milestone by netting double-digit goals for the first time. Now Sapong has taken up his place in Union history by breaking the scoring record that Le Toux set in the Union’s inaugural season.
Sapong has scored 31 goals since joining the Union in 2015, 19 goals short of the total club scoring record held by Le Toux. If the Union front office can surround Sapong with a better supporting cast this offseason, it wouldn’t be unrealistic for the striker to add another club record to his belt.
