Drew Moor almost signed with the Union
The Toronto FC center back was apparently this close to coming to Philadelphia in 2016.
According to a report in yesterday’s Toronto Sun, Toronto FC center back Drew Moor was very close to signing for the Philadelphia Union in 2016. While this isn’t entirely new news, the details provided from Moor are new and newsworthy.
At the end of his 2015 season with the Colorado Rapids, Moor was among the first crop of MLS free agents. We knew the Union pursued Moor during the free agency through sources close to the situation. The Union and TFC were “the two teams that came (to Moor) right away”, and with Moor’s wife being from New Jersey it seemed a sure bet he’d be in blue and gold for the 2016 season.
“I was probably within a day of calling them and saying, ‘I want to go (to Philadelphia).’” Moor told Kurt Larson. But he decided to go to Toronto and hear the Reds’ pitch, and the rest is misery. History. Either or.
Imagine if you will a 2016 Union with a back line of Fabinho, Richie Marquez, Moor, and Keegan Rosenberry in front of Andre Blake. The Union gave up 14 goals in their last seven games, two of which they drew and the other five which they lost. If they had an experienced, solid vet in Moor back there instead of Ken Tribbett it might have been a much different story.
