The Philadelphia Union’s 3-1 win over the Chicago Fire was a game we can be happy with. It wasn’t perfect, but the Union finally seemed to break out of the funk of the last few games. Chris Pontius – the most snake-bitten player on the club in a long time – finally broke his duck and scored not one but two goals on the evening, rewarding his perseverance during this past season. CJ Sapong tied Sebastien Le Toux for the franchise record for goals in a single season, rewarding his perseverance this season as well.

The Union also continues to be exemplary off of the field, and after the match the players and the children who helped design their Kickasso cleats worn during warmups to draw attention to pediatric cancer got to hang out on the field with the players. The Union are always doing great work in the community, whether it’s the relatively high-profile collaboration with Kickasso or lower-key things like Ray Gaddis handing out food to the homeless or the club giving away tickets to underprivileged kids. While we may not always be as happy with the play on the field as we were on Saturday, we should always be proud of the club for their constant charitable work.
