Harrisburg loans ‘keeper Cepero to Union

Published

on

According to PennLive.com’s Derek Meluzio, the Union, as expected, have brought goalkeeper Danny Cepero in on loan from the Harrisburg City Islanders to backup Chris Seitz tomorrow night against Real Salt Lake, with normal backup Brad Knighton suspended from his red card. Cepero, 25, played in 15 regular season and four playoff matches with New York Red Bulls from 2007 to 2009.

This is one of the real benefits of the Union’s pretty innovative relationship with Harrisburg — they act almost as a minor league affiliate of the Union, and players can be loaned back and forth between the clubs as necessary. Midfielder J.T. Noone was shuttled back and forth several times during the season before signing a full MLS contract a couple of weeks ago, and forward Jack McInerney has also been sent on loan to Harrisburg a couple of times during lulls in Philadelphia’s MLS schedule.
