Brian Perk, Former Union Draft Pick, Set To Start For The Los Angeles Galaxy Tonight

The Los Angeles Galaxy have been forced into starting their third goalkeeper tonight versus the Seattle Sounders. Brian Perk sits as the potential starter for at least one game for the Galaxy because of Donovan Ricketts‘ broken forearm and John Saunders’ red card last game.

Drafted 49th overall in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, Perk did not start a single MLS or USOC game for the Philadelphia Union. He did, however, start two of the Union’s three international friendlies during the 2010 MLS season. Perk managed to shut out a reasonably strong Celtic side and made some very strong saves versus Manchester United. Aggressive and confident, but perhaps a bit too much of both, Perk wasn’t able to break the hold that Chris Seitz and Brad Knighton had on the starting and back up goalkeeping roles.

The team let him go without much media or fan attention to the fact on July 30, 2010. He only had three sentences in his waiver article on PhiladelphiaUnion.com.

A former under-20 goalkeeper for the USMNT youth system, Perk was seen as a possible member of the national team's future. Only two years later he's found a new home and a chance to get back on the path to fulfilling predictions that some experts had about him.
