Comcast And Fox Reach Agreement On Broadcasting Fox Soccer Channel In HD

Hidden at the bottom of a New York Times article on Fox's coverage of Europe's Champions League tournament is a small note that many soccer fans in America have long waited for: Comcast will broadcast Fox Soccer Channel in HD. 

Goal.com picked up on the fact that Comcast and Fox, Fox Soccer Channel's parent company, reached an agreement that will allow Comcast to broadcast the soccer dedicated channel in HD on "select systems." For cable subscribers on the East coast, and into the northern Midwest, the news will be a huge bonus for those who were planning on watching tomorrow's Champions League Final between Manchester United and FC Barcelona.

Additionally, FSC’s recently created “Soccer Night in America,” which featured the Philadelphia Union’s game against the Portland Timbers as its first ever showing, will now be in HD, strengthening the channel’s push to brand itself as a premier channel for soccer viewing. Since its inception channel on Comcast’s sports channel tier, FSC and Comcast have come under criticism from subscribers for broadcasting with an “HD” tag on the screen, despite the feed itself not being HD.

The Union will play at DC United on July 2, with the game being shown on FSC along with the July 29 game at home against the Colorado Rapids and the September 23 game at Sporting Kansas City.
