David Beckham Will Not Play Versus The Union, Did Not Make Trip To Philly

Published

Delaware County Times reporter, and the Brotherly Game columnist, Chris Vito is reporting that the Los Angeles Galaxy have told media members that midfielder David Beckham did not travel with the team to Philadelphia.

Beckham was in a minor car crash on May 7, when he bumped into a broken down car in the carpool lane. He and his 12-year-old son were not injured in the rear-end collision. Vito also reported that the accident has nothing to do with Beckham not coming to Philly.

The Galaxy faced the New York Red Bulls last Saturday and Beckham received positive reviews for his play from the deep midfield position that he’s adopted for much of the 2011 season. The 35-year-old former England international as somewhat quieted critics since his preseason training location decision.

Also missing from the Galaxy will be center defender Leonardo, who scored the game winner against the Union earlier in the season.
