Juan Arango, Gold Cup Announcer For CONCACAF, Quits Twitter Because Of Hacker

Published

on

Juan Arango, better known as his Twitter persona @Simply_Juan, quit Twitter early Saturday morning because of comments a hacker made on his account.

The Gold Cup announcer, on CONCACAF's feed of the tournament, said he had received threats and other highly critical messages on the social networking site after calling the USA's opening game against Canada. The energetic and sometimes overly excited Arango had a few calls that made people question, but also laugh with, his verbiage.

Arango was quick to remove the offending tweets from his profile, but the one that remained long enough to be seen involved criticism of CONCACAF over the Gold Cup with some contextual clues hinting towards it referencing the production of the TV feeds. After being flooded with tweets from followers questioning where the comments were coming from, Arango blamed a person who hacked into his account and said that the tweets were not his own, nor did they reflect his opinions.

He deleted his Twitter account soon thereafter without providing a time table for his possible return.
