#MakeStuAnSoB: Stuart Holden Possibly Coming To The June 22 Union Game Against Sporting Kansas City
As has become common during the 2011 MLS season, the Sons of Ben and Philadelphia Union fans as a whole have attempted to create charity and celebrity events through social media networking. Their most recent effort is to get Bolton Wanderers and USMNT midfielder Stuart Holden to a Philadelphia Union game.
The 25-year-old is currently rehabbing an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Wilmington, Delaware. Holden suffered the injury against Manchester United when Jonny Evans came in hard on him studs up and completely missed the ball, striking Holden in the right knee.
He alerted his fans, and inadvertently the Sons of Ben, as to his location, and intentions while in the area, with the following tweet:
Holden’s MLS loyalty rests with the Houston Dynamo, with whom the Scottish-born midfielder restarted his career after being released by Sunderland at the end of an injury plagued six month stay. The Dynamo won the 2006 MLS Cup with Holden scoring the team’s second penalty shot in the game deciding shootout. Even with all of his MLS history, members of the Sons of Ben saw the opportunity to persuade Holden to come out to a game while near Philadelphia.
#MakeStuAnSoB was born and apparently Holden was impressed enough to tell Union fans that he was already thinking about coming out to a Union game:
