Saturday Afternoon Union Freekicks: Off To San Jose

The Philly Soccer Page » Allocation money is… what?
The Philadelphia Union have been very good defensively. But their success has masked a real lack of proven depth on the back line. Both Farfan brothers and Keon Daniel have deputized on the outside while Sheanon Williams had to slide into the middle when Califf couldn’t go in Portland.

Bagels and Lox for Everyone « Union City Blue

The Philadelphia Union announced yesterday that they have traded starting left back Jordan Harvey to the Vancouver Whitecaps for a box of smoked salmon, a scrimshaw whale’s tooth and a First Nations’ ceremonial eagle feather.  In MLS’s world of cryptic parlance and partial disclosure, this is also known as “allocation money.” When I first read this shocking and unexpected development, you could have knocked me down with, well, a feather.

PBPP: Harvey trade overshadows Saturday game vs. San Jose | Philadelphia Union

Harvey had started every game but one (suspension) for a team that has been among the top three defensive teams since the 2011 season began. The 27-year-old is a good pickup for Vancouver, especially without giving up a player of their own.
