Source: RSL Game Schedule Change Not Officially Cleared By Union

The Brotherly Game has learned that the Philadelphia Union have yet to officially clear Major League Soccer’s schedule change for their April 23 match with Real Salt Lake.

An anonymous source close to the situation told the Brotherly Game that, despite a tweet by RSL Tribune writer Michael C. Lewis stating that the date has changed, the Union have yet to approve the change. If allowed by Union officials, the game at Salt Lake's Rio Tinto Stadium will be pushed back to September 3. The change would accommodate the heavy fixtures strain that getting into the CONCACAF Champions League final has become for Salt Lake.

If the game remains on April 23, the Union will most likely face the “RSL B” side (coined by MLS fans across the internet) that dismantled the New England Revolution just over a week ago.

September 3, however, is not itself without a scheduling situation of its own. That week is due to be a break for MLS teams, as it falls during a stretch of FIFA international games. As seen with the recent problems faced by the New York Red Bulls, some teams have serious depth problems when FIFA dates come about. The most notable exclusion for Salt Lake, in this situation, would be Alvaro Saborio, who is a Costa Rica national team regular.
