The Union Fly South For Training Camp
While Philly is inundated with snow and ice (and thundersleet!), the boys of the Union don't need to worry about any of that right now. They just landed in Orlando for their preseason training camp, three weeks of what's likely to sun and fun and…lots of hard work training and preparing for the sophomore season.
Arriving yesterday with a host of new faces, it's important to point out that the team has their work cut out for them. And defense will be at the top of the "to-do" list.
According to the Union's communication department, the team will be staying at the Westin Lake Mary, Orlando North, which will serve as the club's base through 2014. Additionally, the Westin is offering a Philadelphia Union Fan Package for supporters with a special $159-$179 rate. Not to sound like an advertisement (really, I'm not!), but it's a pretty cool deal and one I'd jump on if it weren't for real life. Click here for more info.
The club will be taking the pitch for four exhibition matches during the camp – Feb. 6 (11 am) vs. U-17 U.S. Men National Team at Lake Sylvan Park, Feb. 10 (3.30 pm) vs. University of South Florida at Lake Sylvan Park, Feb. 13 (10 am) vs. University of Central Florida at UCF, and finally Feb. 19 (7 pm) against Orlando City S.C., the local USL-Pro side. This camp-closing match goes down at the Florida Citrus Bowl. You can nab tickets here.
The first regular season game is March 19 in Houston against the Dynamo. The home opener is March 26 against expansion side Vancouver Whitecaps.
