Union Set to Begin Reserve League Play
Today at 10:00 AM, the Union will open play in the new and improved 2011 edition of the MLS Reserve Division against the New York Red Bulls. The team will be coached by Brendan Burke, who is also the head coach of the Union’s PDL affiliate Reading United AC.
All of the Union players are eligible to take part in tomorrow’s game, but several players went the full 90 in Saturday’s league win over New York and a few even went 120 minutes in the US Open Cup against DC United. But many players on the Union roster are itching for some playing time.
Coach Burke has revealed, per the Union's official website, that four Union Academy players have been called in for the match. The Brotherly Game has learned that one of those players is U18 captain Jimmy McLaughlin, who has enjoyed a stellar club season with FC DELCO thus far. Check after the jump for a prediction of who Burke could send out in the starting eleven.
MacMath
Richter-Gonzalez-Okugo-M. Farfan
Houapeu-Nakazawa-Miglioranzi-Pfeffer
McInerney-Mwanga
The back line is makeshift for sure, but that's what happens when a team only has 5 natural defenders on it's roster. MacMath gets the nod over Thorne Holder, as MacMath's development is more important. Okugo and Miglioranzi will be subbed off at halftime as they have played quite a bit recently. And Chris Agorsor will spell Mwanga at halftime. What players would you put out there in this Reserve match? Excited to see Pfeffer play? Will anyone actually be heading out to see the game at Chester Field in Wallingford, PA?
