Paunovic Will Miss At Least Union Season Closer Due To Hamstring Injury
The only new development on the Philadelphia Union’s injury list is the addition of veteran attacking midfielder/forward Veljko Paunovic, who is currently suffering from an injury to his hamstring.
Paunovic’s hamstring injury has placed him alongside Trinidadian goalkeeper Thorne Holder (concussion) and fellow attacking midfielder/forward Levi Houapeu (left ankle strain) as the only Union players currently listed as out for Thursday night’s game against the rival New York Red Bulls. The 34-year-old was injured during the Union’s 1-1 draw with Toronto FC that officially gave the team its first ever MLS playoff berth.
The former Serbian international revealed on Twitter that his hamstring was in poor enough condition that he was unable to attend the Union's final Reserve League game of the season, a 3-1 loss to Toronto's reserve squad. He also said that he pulled his hamstring, which could mean a recovery of as few as 2-3 days or as much as 4 to 6 weeks, barring surgery, depending on the grade of the strain.
