Wednesday Morning Union Freekicks: Harrisburg They Go

Match Report Columbus | Union Dues

The Union goes to Columbus, the first real "six pointer" in our history and we come home empty handed. I had a generally decent feeling from watching the match. Yes, I am aware we need a finisher. Yes, I know that the transfer window is now closed. I still don’t see doom or gloom. I think we are a team in flux, again. The subtraction of Ruiz and the addition of Adu will change the way we play drastically. Its gonna take some time to adjust, but since we have the hood open and the tools out….

Former City Islanders player Sheanon Williams part of the Philadelphia Union contingent that will play at City Island's Skyline Sports Complex on Wednesday night |
Surely, someone would snap up a talented youngster who’d taken every step through the U.S. national program and played one year at North Carolina before trying to latch on with several professional teams — domestic and abroad — only to be told "we can’t use you right now."

Prodigies of the world acquiesces, unite! "

This story, in German, basically says ending up with the Philadelphia Union is something no soccer player wants to do. Sigh.

Freddy Adu's time with the Philadelphia Union will define the rest of his soccer career – Soccer Blog

Back in June, Freddy Adu showed a similar flash of his old talent in the United States men’s national team’s 1-0 semifinal win over Panama in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The one-time savior of U.S. soccer played a laser-like diagonal ball from the center of the pitch that traveled at least 60 yards toward a lurking Landon Donovan on the wing.

Brian Ackley was frustrated with his situation at the Czech Republic club FK Pribram and decided he needed to return to the United States. J.T. Noone (pictured above) was upset when he was one of the last players to be waived by the Philadelphia Union shortly before the 2011 season began.

This time around, priorities in line for Adu | Philadelphia Union

"I’m not sure looking back on the whole Freddy Adu experience that we managed it as well as we could have," Garber admitted while at PPL Park last week for the Union’s first-ever Supporters Summit. "But hindsight is 20-20. The league was very different then. Freddy was different then. He was a very young guy with a lot of attention on him and the league needed it. The sport needed it. Freddy needed it. And I’m not sure he was able to handle it.

MLS Power Rankings: Week 23 | Philadelphia Union

A young team that’s gotten a lesson in focus and composure over the last month. That’s the story of the Union. The story of the next two months has to be how they learned from their trials and came together as a unit, or an early playoff exit is their likely destiny. Peter Nowak has a lot of work ahead.
