WPSL update: Penn Fusion, Lehigh Valley Tempest off to perfect starts

Penn Fusion are yet to concede a goal in 2021

After just two matches in the WPSL season, the Mid Atlantic Conference seems like a two-horse race.

Penn Fusion is off to a 2-0 start with wins against Hershey FC and Torch FC, both of whom are struggling in the early going. The four-time defending conference champions have yet to concede a goal while putting six past their opponents thus far.

Meanwhile, Lehigh Valley Tempest also remains perfect through two matches, after dispatching Philadelphia Lone Star FC twice.

The two teams will play each other on June 17 at Kutztown University, and will meet for the final game of the season on July 1.

If any of the other teams in the division want the chance to catch up, this week will be a great opportunity. Philly Fever has played just once, a tie with Hershey FC, and get a great chance to play Lehigh Valley on Thursday and close the gap to the top of the table. Philly will then play Lone Star FC on Saturday, and a six point week would put them at the top with Penn Fusion.

Meanwhile in the Colonial Conference, SJEB FC is now 2-1 with one of the highest scoring teams in the nation. Led by Madison Bee and Kelly McGroarty, the team has scored 15 goals in three matches, the latest being a 6-1 dismantling of Athena Soccer Club.

However, the team fell at the hands of the Washington Dutch Lions, whom they will rematch on July 10, their last match of the season. For now, their focus will be on Thursday’s contest with the CAFC Ospreys at the Delaware Turf Sports Complex.
