Philadelphia Lone Star are one win away from qualifying for the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after a thrilling 2-1 extra time win over Vereinigung Erzgebirge in southwest Philadelphia on Sunday.

Lone Star will face Massachusetts club Brockton FC United in the fourth and final round of local qualifying for the competition. The game will be played either on November 20 or 21 with the time and venue to be announced.

Lone Star opened their qualifying campaign with a 9-2 win over Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals in September.

They were able to advance on Sunday in extra time despite being down a man with a 2-1 win over VE. All three goals were scored in extra time.

Hassan Kone put Lone Star ahead in the 111th minute but VE equalized a minute later on an own goal before Kanibah Kutu-Akoi scored the winner in the 116th minute.
