The Philadelphia Union has loaned homegrown center-back Brandan Craig to Austin FC for the remainder of the 2023 season, the club announced Wednesday. In return, the Union will receive up to $125,000 in general allocation money and Austin’s third-round selection in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft on the basis of performance incentives being met.

Craig, 19, first signed with the Union in 2021 after developing in the club’s academy system. He made his MLS debut a year and a half later when he came on in a 7-0 victory over D.C. United in July 2022. Craig has also made 24 appearances for Union II in MLS Next Pro, netting two goals and recording four assists.

Most recently, Craig gained attention for his performances with the United States U-20 Men’s National Team, including his play at the U-20 World Cup. The Union player has recorded 14 appearances with the group.
