Philadelphia Union vs NY Red Bulls postponed to August 8

Philadelphia’s Leagues Cup Round of 16 matchup against New York Red Bulls has been postponed to tomorrow. As a result of forecasted thunderstorms, the matchup will be pushed back to tomorrow, August 8 at 8 p.m. ET at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa. The club announced in an official release that all tickets purchased will be honored for the scheduled match date on Tuesday. The decision was made mere hours before kickoff, with many fans already en route to the stadium. Many journalists were already in the press box when the postponement was announced.

Though it will stink for some who were planning on attending tonight, this is the right call to make. It’s not only thunderstorms that are on the forecast. The area has a tornado watch until 11 p.m. tonight. With the radar looking clear tomorrow, there was absolutely no reason to chance this one. Even if the thunder held off and there was just rain, you absolutely don’t want to see either side sustain an injury this late into both the competition and the MLS season.

The club stated that the match will be made available tomorrow to watch on MLS Season Pass.
