Philadelphia Union signs defender Isaiah LeFlore
The Philadelphia Union signed defender Isaiah LeFlore, the club announced Tuesday. LeFlore, a 21-year-old left-back, will be on a one-year contract.
LeFlore comes to the Union from the Houston Dynamo 2 team, where he put together a standout 2023 season in MLS Next Pro play. The defender appeared in 36 games with Houston, making 27 starts. His assists (6), tackles (33), interceptions (52) and duels (272) were the highest of MLS Next Pro defenders. LeFlore also notched six goals across the last two seasons.
“Through his recent play in USL and MLS Next Pro, Isaiah is a promising young prospect with potential to fit well in our system,” said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner in a statement. “He’s an offensive-minded left back who is ready to test himself at the next level, and we look forward to contributing to his development.”
Standing at 5-foot-8 and 159 pounds, LeFlore came to Houston from S.C. Braga’s reserve team in Portugal’s third division. He also played for two seasons with Sporting Kansas’ second team and Portuguese side OD Oeiras. He spent time in his youth career with Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
