Philadelphia Union reportedly targeting Bolivian defender Jamir Berdecio on loan
The Philadelphia Union is reportedly targeting Bolivian defender Jamir Berdecio on loan, per Bolivian journalist Diego Guthrie.
“Everything is geared up for Jamir Berdecio to be loaned to the Philadelphia Union,” Guthrie wrote in a post, originally in Spanish. “Today the transfer takes place and the player will be a new legionnaire.”
Berdecio, 21, is a right-footed defender who plays for Oriente Petrolero, which plays in the top division of Bolivian soccer. Per Transfermarkt, Berdecio has played in 37 matches for Oriente Petrolero and recorded 1,942 minutes. He has not scored for his side but has picked up six yellow cards. Transfermarkt lists Berdecio’s value at around $300,000.
It’s unsure if Berdecio’s role will work with the Union’s first or second teams. Berdecio is a defender who plays centrally and on the right side of the field, two positions the Union doesn’t need shored up on the first team. The Union’s second team has often used Central American players on loan to strengthen its rosters, bringing in players like Jose Riasco, Pedro Alvares, Juan Castillo, and others.
