Former Philadelphia Union defender Keegan Rosenberry has carved out a nice career for himself with the Colorado Rapids and entering his sixth season he’ll continue to do so as the team’s captain.

The Lancaster County native who spent his first three seasons with his hometown Philadelphia Union after being drafted out of college at Georgetown was recently named the team captain by new head coach Chris Armas.

“I’ve been at the club a little while now and I feel like I’ve seen it a relative highs and lows for the club’s history,” Rosenberry said in video of the announcement. “And I don’t want any of us to cheat this group of what the potential is because I feel like there’s there’s something here. You know, it’s been a brief time so far together, but I feel like we’ve got something here. I think we can get to where we want to. So thank you and excited. Let’s get to work.”

Rosenberry turned 30 last month. He grew up in Ronks, Pa. and played for Spirit United and Penn Fusion before going to college at Georgetown. He also was part of the Philadelphia Union Reserves and won a state title at Lancaster Mennonite High School. Over summers in college he played for Reading United.

He was drafted third overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Union and spent three seasons in Chester before being traded to the Rapids.
