Philadelphia Union Academy/YSC Academy grad and former Union II goalkeeper Kris Shakes will begin his professional career in New Mexico.

New Mexico United announced the signing of the Florida native on Tuesday.

“Kris is a terrific, young talent who has been truly impressive in our preseason, and is only going to continue to get better,” said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan in a news relese. “We’re fortunate to have such a terrific young player joining our team, and can’t wait to see what he’ll accomplish on and off the pitch.”

Shakes joins New Mexico United after a successful collegiate career where he earned all-Big Ten honors and recorded 21 career shutouts in 73 matches.
