Fresh off hosting pro sides in the U.S. Open Cup, West Chester United and Vereinigung Erzgebirge will take on top amateur teams from outside the area with play beginning in the Region 1 Amateur Cup on Sunday afternoon.

West Chester United hosts Maryland team Steel Pulse at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Bryn Athyn College while VE hosts Virginia Marauders FC at their club at 2 p.m.

Fellow USL of PA team Lancaster City FC will travel to Great Falls, Virginia for their Round of 16 match against Los Toros.

Should West Chester United and VE both win the two rivals will face off in the quarterfinals on April 28. Lancaster City FC would get the winner of Alexandria Reds and Christos FC if they advance.

Win or lose, West Chester United will get a rematch with Steel Pulse on April 14 since the two sides are playing each other in the Werner Fricker Cup quarterfinal at 4 p.m. at Delacy Soccer Complex.

The Werner Fricker Cup is no longer a national competition but the Region 1 Amateur Cup winner goes on to compete in the National Amateur Cup, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year with the semifinals and finals in DeKalb, Illinois.
