MD Myers (Delran, N.J.) returned from injury and scored the eventual game-winning goal four minutes after coming on for his season debut to lead Charleston Battery to a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay Rowdies on his 24th birthday of all days. The goal was his 37th professional goal in 67 appearances over three seasons and 18th since joining the Battery last season.
Myers wasn’t the only Philadelphia Union Academy grad with a big goal over the weekend. Jack McGlynn scored the lone goal for Houston Dynamo in their first win of the season. Femi Awodesu (Philadelphia, Pa.) started and played the full 90 for the Dynamo in the 1-0 win over LAFC.
Cory Burke scored for the third time (all competitions) for Lexington SC in a 2-1 loss to El Paso Locomotive. Jahmali Waite made four saves in goal for El Paso in the victory.
CJ dos Santos (Philadelphia, Pa.) and San Diego FC continue to shine. Dos Santos made four saves to secure his third clean sheet of the season in a 3-0 win over Seattle Sounders. San Diego became the third expansion team to record 14 points through their first 7 games, sharing the feat with LAFC and St. Louis City SC.
Matt Freese (Wayne, Pa.) made 7 saves in NYCFC’s 2-1 loss to Minnesota United.
Carlos Coronel made five saves in New York Red Bulls’ 2-1 win over Chicago Fire. AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.), who made his MLS debut on March 22, dressed but did not play. Jack Elliott was out with an injury.
John McCarthy (Philadelphia, Pa.) conceded two goals and did not record a save in LA Galaxy’s 2-0 loss to Real Salt Lake.
George Campbell (Chester, Pa.) played 90 minutes for CF Montreal in their 2-1 loss to Columbus Crew. Brandan Craig (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Fabian Herbers did not dress for Montreal and Derrick Jones did not feature for Columbus. Jones has logged just one minute this season for the Crew.
Josh Jones (Hatfield, Pa.) made his second cameo for Louisville City, logging 1 minute against Sacramento Republic in a 1-1 draw after making his pro debut last month. Aiden McFadden (West Chester, Pa.) started in the match and played 70 minutes.
Former Temple forward Sean Karani scored a GOAL for Ventura County in their 2-1 win over Real Monarchs. The goal is his first of the season and sixth overall in MLS Next Pro play.
Penn grad Leo Burney made his second start in league play for Tacoma Defiance and played 90 minutes in their 5-3 win over Whitecaps 2. Fellow Penn grad Charlie Gaffney made his third start and played 44 minutes in the match for Tacoma. On-loan Philadelphia Union forward Nelson Pierre (Lebanon, Pa.) started in the match for Whitecaps 2 and for the first time didn’t find the back of the net after scoring in his firs three matches with the team.
Pierre Reedy (Kutztown, Pa.) made his second start of the season for Spokane Velocity in their scoreless draw with Portland Hearts of Pine in USL League One play. Kemali Green (Philadelphia, Pa.) did not dress for Portland after starting at center back in both U.S. Open Cup wins and their first league match.
Nyk Sessock (Philadelphia, Pa.) has made three starts for Atlanta United 2 in MLS Next Pro.
Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made his professional debut for Portland Timbers 2 in a 1-1 draw and penalty shootout victory over The Town FC and also played in the 1-1 draw and shootout loss to Whitecaps 2.
