Quinn Sullivan, Harriel and five other academy grads named to U.S. Gold Cup roster

Quinn Sullivan and Nathan Harriel will have plenty of familiar company on the U.S. roster for the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup with five other academy graduates on Mauricio Pochettino’s 26-player roster for the tournament.

Sullivan and Harriel have both been in the pre-tournament camp with the senior national team. They are joined on the roster by former teammates Jack McGlynn, Matt Freese and Paxten Aaronson along with Brenden Aaronson and Mark McKenzie. Six of the seven academy grads on the team also graduated from YSC Academy while Freese is an Episcopal Academy grad. Brian White, a New Jersey native who played his academy soccer at PDA, was also part of the Union’s academy when it was a club neutral training program and was an outside back on the Union U-17 team coached by Jim Curtin that won the 2012 Generation adidas Cup.

Both Sullivan and Harriel will miss the Union’s next league match against Charlotte FC on June 14 and would miss the game at Columbus (June 29) and Nashville (July 5) if the U.S. makes it to the final on July 6 in Houston. Andre Blake (Jamaica) and Danley Jean Jacques (Haiti) will also miss the June 14 game while away with their national teams at the Gold Cup.
