Philadelphia Union reserve goalkeeper Oliver Semmle is returning to the USL Championship via a loan for the remainder of the season to North Carolina FC.

The 27-year-old Semmle joined the Union from Louisville City FC in 2024 but has not featured for the first team since last July. He’s logged 17 appearances and 15 starts for the blue and gold. He’s made 5 starts this season in MLS Next Pro for Philadelphia Union II.

North Carolina FC is currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship. Former Union goalkeeper Jake McGuire has been on the team since 2024, his second stint in North Carolina after playing for them during the 2021 season.

Semmle’s contract runs through the end of December but it also includes a club option for 2026.
