The Philadelphia Union will take on the Chicago Fire in the best-of-three first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs thanks to a 3-1 win by the Fire over Orlando City in the Wild Card match on Wednesday night in Chicago.

The Union have never played the Fire in the MLS Cup Playoffs but has twice beaten them in U.S. Open Cup semifinals played in Chester: a 1-0 win in 2015 and 3-0 win in 2018.

Due to the best-of-three format MLS has been using in the playoffs since 2024, the Union will have to travel to Chicago for the second game on Nov. 1. Game three if needed would be back at Subaru Park on Nov. 8 and all subsequent post-season matches would also be played in Chester.

The Union beat the Fire in both games played during the regular season, a 1-0 in Chicago in late June and a 4-0 win at home in late August.
