Philadelphia Union
Glesnes and Baribo reportedly exiting to LA and D.C.
Two of the stars of the Philadelphia Union’s Supporters’ Shield winning season are reportedly on their way to LA Galaxy and D.C. United.
Separate reports over the weekend indicated that leading goal scorer Tai Baribo and Best XI defender Jakob Glesnes are being dealt even as Sporting Director Ernst Tanner remains on leave pending an investigation into misconduct.
The reported deals are for over $1 million in general allocation money for Glesnes and for around $4 million in cash for Baribo.
Baribo had 19 goals in all competitions this season to lead the Union but he’ll be 28 in January and has a year left on his contract. The Union paid $1.5 million to acquire Baribo from Austrian club Wolfsberger AC in August 2023. He’s scored 35 goals and added six assists in 67 appearances across all competitions for the Union.
Glesnes, 31, signed a new deal with the Union in August with a guarantee through 2027 and an option for 2028. The Norwegian center back was signed in early 2020 from Strømsgodset for a reported fee of around $770,000 and he’s made 224 appearances in all competitions for the club with 10 goals and 8 assists.
Glesnes made $1,310,000 in guaranteed compensation for the club in 2025 while Baribo made $810,000 in guaranteed compensation, according to the MLSPA Salary Guide.
The Union signed 20-year-old Ghanian forward Ezekiel Alladoh for a record $4.5 million and are reportedly close to adding 22-year-old Colombian center back Geiner Martinez for $800,000.
