Mikael Uhre will not be back with the Philadelphia Union in 2026.

The now former Union striker was negotiating a possible new contract with the Union but has returned home to Denmark instead to sign with FC Midtjylland on a free transfer.

Midtjylland is currently second in the Superliga table behind AGF and ahead of Uhre’s former team Brøndby IF.

Uhre’s time with the Union had mixed returns. He arrived as a record signing at the time, signing on a $2.8 million deal ahead of the 2022 MLS season after winning a league title with Brøndby IF in the 2020-2021 season.

For the price tag – his guaranteed compensation in 2025 was $2.24 million – he was streaky at times and reached double digits in goals twice in four seasons. He was prolific enough, however, to reach a tie for third all-time in total goals for the team behind Sebastien Le Toux and Daniel Gazdag and tied with Julian Carranza.

The 31-year-old finishes his time in Chester with 43 goals and 28 primary assists in 155 appearances across all competitions.
