53-second turnaround snaps Temple’s 18-match winless streak

Goals 53 seconds apart from Carlos Rojas and Taimoor Hussain finally put the nail in the coffin of a streak Temple men’s soccer will want to soon forget ever happened.

Trailing 1-0 to FAU on the road on Friday night, it looked like the Owls might be heading to a 13th straight loss in American Athletic Conference play but the goals from two new arrivals to North Broad Street turned the game and potentially the season on its head.

The win was the first for the program since a 1-0 victory at home over Lafayette last September and the first road and conference win since a 1-0 victory at Tulsa in November 2024. Just two players on the field for the Owls on Friday night were in the squad for their last conference win – Nathan Brown and Harrison Dandridge.

Second-year Austrian midfielder Lukas Stefener assisted both goals for the Owls. Rojas, a transfer from Virginia Tech, scored his team-leading fourth goal while Hussain scored his first career goal.

Temple will look to build on their stunning win when they visit Lafayette on Tuesday night. They’ll stay at home to host conference foe Memphis next Sunday afternoon.
