Very little has separated the Downingtown East and Downingtown West girls soccer programs this season so it wasn’t a huge surprise that their highly anticipated match on Thursday night ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Hosts Downingtown East took the lead after a goalkeeper miscue inside 10 minutes but Downingtown West found a second half equalizer from Ashley Thornton.

Downingtown West improved to 8-0-3 with the draw while Downingtown East improved to 9-0-3. With Methacton dropping points for the first time this season in a 1-0 loss to Spring-Ford on Thursday, Downingtown West moved up to the second spot in the District 1 4A rankings behind defending state champions Central Bucks East (12-0-1). East is behind Methacton and Spring-Ford at No. 5 in the rankings.

Photographer Don Robson was on-hand to capture the action on Thursday.
