McFadden goal leads Louisville City to USL Cup title
West Chester native Aiden McFadden has scored some big goals in his soccer career, from his youth days with Penn Fusion and high school soccer at Henderson to West Chester United, Notre Dame and the professional ranks, but his 12th minute strike in Hartford on Sunday afternoon was perhaps his most significant goal yet.
The 28-year-old Louisville City defender’s goal stood up as the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Hartford Athletic in Sunday’s USL Cup final.
With the victory, Louisville City FC becomes the first club in the United Soccer League to win all three of its major trophies: the USL Championship title (2017, 2018), the Players’ Shield (2024, 2025) and the USL Cup (2026).
Taylor Davila’s corner kick set up McFadden’s goal, which headed in.
“I was able to get free, Davi put in a good ball, and I used my face,” McFadden was quoted saying after the match. “So it’s done my job, really.”
McFadden made a pair of tackles and had seven clearances in helping Louisville keep the clean sheet, earning the MVP honor.
Former Philadelphia Union forward Chris Donovan also started the match for Louisville City while former Union forward Michee Ngalina started for Hartford and Matt Real came off the bench in the 58th minute.
Hatfield, Pa. native and former PIAA state champion defender Josh Jones underwent season-ending surgery in July to repair a persistent hamstring injury but was on-hand to celebrate the trophy win with his teammates.
