Philadelphia Union clinch playoff berth for first time since 2011

It actually happened.

The Philadelphia Union have punched their tickets to the 2016 Major League Soccer Playoffs by virtue of goal differential over the New England Revolution, who defeated the Montreal Impact by a score of 3-0. The Union are in with a six goal cushion. It’s not the greatest way to go in, but it’s a way in.

Yes, it hasn’t been the easiest time for the Union, who ended the season winning only two of their last fifteen matches. And yes, it’s not an easy ask for the club to have to go on the road and face Toronto FC, but for a team that at the beginning of the year was expected to miss the playoffs, this is a huge step in the right direction.

But let’s worry about the upcoming road trip and the next opponent tomorrow. For now, let’s just celebrate being a playoff team for the first time in five long years.
