Andre Blake, Keegan Rosenberry, and Chris Pontius shortlisted for MLS awards
Three Philadelphia Union players could bring home four league awards.
Major League Soccer released the shortlist for awards earlier today, and three Philadelphia Union players were among the final three candidates for some big awards.
Keegan Rosenberry was (unsurprisingly) shortlisted for the MLS Rookie of the Year award, along with the Seattle Sounders’ Jordan Morris and New York City FC’s Jack Harrison. Rosenberry was also one of the three finalists for the MLS Fair Play award, which is awarded “based on objective criteria such as fouls committed, cards received, games and minutes played, as well as subjective evaluation of sportsmanlike behavior.” Chad Marshall of the Seattle Sounders and Chris Tierney of the New England Revolution were also nominated. The Fair Play award will be given out on November 4th, along with MLS Referee and Assistant Referee of the Year awards, while the AT&T Rookie of the Year award will be given out on November 10th.
Chris Pontius was nominated for Comeback Player of the Year, along with Frank Lampard of New York City FC and Kevin Molino of Orlando City. This award “honors an MLS player who has overcome injuries and/or adversity in order to achieve success during the 2016 regular season.” The MLS Comeback Player of the Year award will be given out on November 16th.
Andre Blake was (also unsurprisingly) nominated for the Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year award along with the Colorado Rapids’ Tim Howard and New York Red Bulls’ Luis Robles. The Goalkeeper of the Year award will be given out on November 17th.
